Facebook and Instagram have to pay? !

According to Agence France-Presse, according to the news disclosed by The Wall Street Journal for the first time on Tuesday, Meta is studying various payment schemes. If users don’t agree with the company to collect their personal data for targeted advertising purposes, they can choose to pay about 10 euros a month for Instagram or Facebook accounts on their computers, or 13 euros for mobile applications on their smartphones, and each additional account needs about 6 euros a month, so that they can access these platforms by paying fees.

Based on this model, Meta and Google have largely established the economic structure of the Internet: using personal data collected by the company to provide personalized and targeted advertisements to billions of users.

However, the EU has been opposed to tracking Internet users without their consent for many years. To this end, the EU implemented the European Data Protection Regulation in 2016 and the Digital Market Regulation, which came into effect this summer. In July this year, the European Court of Justice issued a ruling confirming that Meta has no right to share users’ personal information on its platform. The court said that users “must be free to refuse or agree to some unnecessary data processing, and will not be forced to give up using its services because of this”.

Therefore, Meta must make rectification before March 6, 2024 to comply with its new obligations. One of the solutions is to provide these users with appropriate payment options if necessary, and after paying such fees, users will not be forced to accept unnecessary data processing.
