March into Europe! Amazon plans to make another move in 2024.

According to Spain’s “El Pais” reported on the 18th, Amazon plans to start using drones for delivery in Britain and Italy by the end of 2024. The company has carried out pilot projects in two American states (Texas and California) and announced their next goal: to enter Europe.

At an event with international journalists in Seattle on Wednesday, David Carbon, vice president of Amazon Prime Air, said: “We have been working with regulators to provide this service to our customers.” In addition to Britain and Italy, the plan will also reach “a new city in the United States”. “We hope to start drone delivery in these three new locations before the end of 2024″. Amazon has not announced the name of the specific city where the service will be implemented.

Amazon drones will be able to fly between 40 and 120 meters in airspace with almost no obstacles. The purpose is to detect obstacles through sensors and cameras and move between people, pets and wires. After arriving at the customer’s home, the drone slowly landed on the delivery sign. When the distribution area is empty, the equipment releases the package, rises again and returns to the distribution station.

Amazon’s goal is to enable customers in specific locations to choose fast drones to deliver products weighing no more than 2.25 kilograms. Carbon emphasizes that customers attach importance to delivery speed. “None of our customers will say,’ I like Amazon, but can you deliver my package slowly?’ ”。 In addition, he also stressed that “it is very important to understand the restrictions and regulations of the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the European Aviation Safety Agency (EASA).” If not handled properly, drones may pose security risks. Amazon realizes that only when customers know that the system is completely safe will they receive drone delivery with confidence. Therefore, the company emphasizes that they have been working with expert teams in the aerospace, security or robotics fields for nearly ten years to ensure that Amazon Prime Air meets the requirements of the aerospace industry.
